About Our Wetland

The project will be constructed in 13 phases on terraced acreage adjacent to the Animas River and includes the development of five categories of wetland habitat: aquatic, marsh, wet meadows, willow, and cottonwood. These habitats combine to provide shelter, food, and migration routes for hundreds of species of birds and mammals. The protection of these habitats has been identified as a top priority for residents and government officials charged with protecting the diverse natural resources of La Plata County.
